It is that smart person that realizes that that cover letter is their only chance to really make an impression to get their foot in the door for that first interview.

Common cover letters contain only a small amount of information about the writer, just enough words to call it a letter and a small pitiful plea at the end to ask to be called for an interview. This is a really big mistake that almost 99% of the people do when looking for a job. This is where you can stand out and make yourself known. Take some time to find out a little about the company. Let them know that you really do want this job. Then sell yourself.

A well-written resume is a must. But realize that this is not what is going to get you in the door. A resume simply shows the reader that you are qualified to actually do the job you are applying for. It doesn’t bring you out as a unique individual, confidently seeking the position that they have. Knowing that you can fill the position with no question, and do it well.
